August 2, 2010 — The August issue of Yankees Magazine came out today.
If you’re going to be at Yankee Stadium for any game this month, purchase a copy of it. Trust me, it will be a valued keepsake and worthy collectible for a long time.†
That’s because this issue celebrates the life of Yankees Magazine‘s founder and the New York Yankees late owner, George M. Steinbrenner III.
The cover (below) features a rare photo of Mr. Steinbrenner in the old Stadium’s Monument Park, and the cover story was written by Michel Kay — who has covered the Yankees for more than two decades.
This issue also celebrates the life of the legendary Bob Sheppard. The Voice of Yankee Stadium is also seen on the cover and featured in a story written by long-time Yankees beat writer Jack O’Connell.†
In my “From the Press Box” column on page 1, I did my best to honor the legacy of both men.
Yankees Magazine has been going strong for over 30 years now, and it would be difficult to compare the significance of any of the previous issues with this one.
