Although he’s not on the field today due to injury, Gary Sanchez is on the cover of the April Issue. As I wrote in an entry below, I sat down with the catcher for dinner during spring training and to interview him for the cover story.

While in Tampa, I also sat down with Aroldis Chapman for a feature on the team’s hard-throwing closer. That conversation took place in the Yankees’ bullpen at George M. Steinbrenner Field, and it centered around Chapman’s tremendous work ethic and the desire he had to come back to the Yankees as a free agent.

Also in the April Issue, you’ll find executive editor Nathan Maciborski’s Q&A on Matt Holliday and deputy editor Jon Schwartz’ piece on Jacoby Ellsbury. For the story on Ellsbury, Schwartz traveled through Arizona, visiting the centerfielder’s baseball camp for Native American youth in Scottsdale. Schwartz then drove across the state to the reservation where Ellsbury spent time during his early years.

My favorite story in the April Issue is a piece that I wrote about the Yankees Baseball Summer Camps — and it was also the editorial I most enjoyed putting together. For this feature, I spent a day at the camp (see blog entry below) and had the opportunity to watch my son, Alfred, take the field and compete in a Yankees uniform.
